Quoted $1,200 for preventative termite treatment

Hey everyone,
I just got quoted $1,200 for preventative termite treatment on my home, and I’m trying to figure out if that’s reasonable or if I should be shopping around more.

The house doesn’t currently show any active termite damage, so this would be purely preventative. The company mentioned a liquid barrier around the foundation and an annual inspection, but details were a bit vague.

For those who’ve done preventative treatments before:

  • Is this price in the normal range?
  • Did you feel it was worth it long-term?
  • Are there cheaper alternatives that still work?

Curious to hear what others have paid and what kind of protection you went with.

$1,200 sounds a little high to me unless it includes a warranty or follow-up visits. I paid less, but it was a smaller house.

Price really depends on square footage, soil type, and whether they’re doing a full perimeter treatment. Ask for a written breakdown.

Preventative treatments always feel expensive until you see the cost of actual termite damage. That said, I’d still get at least one more quote.

Did they mention how long the treatment is supposed to last? Some barriers are 5+ years, others need reapplication sooner.

@FixItFrank If that includes annual inspections, that’s not terrible. Inspections alone can add up over time.

I paid around the same, but it came with a transferable warranty. That was a big selling point for resale value.

I went with bait stations instead and paid less upfront, but it’s more of an ongoing cost. Depends how you prefer to budget.

Also ask if the quote includes treating problem areas like crawl spaces or just the exterior. That can change the value a lot.

@IHeartMice Same here. My quote dropped a few hundred once I pushed back and asked what was actually necessary.

Personally, I’d rather overpay slightly for prevention than gamble on repairs later. But I agree—compare quotes before committing.
