Hi folks,
I’m a bit confused and hoping someone can shed some light on this. Over the last week, I’ve spotted what look like roaches in my backyard — mostly near damp soil, under flower pots, and once by the fence at night.
I always thought roaches were more of an indoor problem, so now I’m wondering if this is normal outdoor behavior or a sign that something could move inside later. Has anyone dealt with this before, and is it something to worry about right away?
Some roach species actually prefer outdoor environments, especially moist areas.
If they’re staying outside and not coming in, it’s not always a big deal.
I see them under mulch all the time. They usually scatter fast when disturbed.
Not all roaches want to live inside kitchens, some are perfectly happy outdoors.
@GardenCorners exactly this. Outdoor ones behave very differently from indoor pests.
The real concern is if they start showing up near doors or drains.
Heavy rain tends to push them into more visible spots outside.
@FenceLineFinds good to know, mine seem pretty skittish and fast.
If you’re seeing them under pots and soil, that’s pretty textbook outdoor behavior.
I’d just keep an eye on entry points. Outside sightings alone don’t always mean trouble.
