Hi all,
I’m dealing with a nightmare right now. One room in my house is completely infested with carpet beetles — adults, larvae, you name it. The rest of the house seems mostly fine, but this room is out of control. I’ve read a lot of mixed advice online and honestly don’t know where to begin without making things worse.
Hey there, you’re definitely not alone. First thing I learned is that carpet beetles are more about cleanliness and hiding spots than people realize. I started by emptying the room completely and vacuuming everything, including baseboards and vents.
I went through this last year. Focusing on one room can work, but only if you’re sure they haven’t spread. In my case, they were already in closets nearby and I didn’t notice until later.
Morning! Larvae are usually the real issue, not the adults. If you’re still seeing fuzzy little worms, that means there’s a food source somewhere — pet hair, old fabric, even dust buildup.
Honestly, don’t panic yet. I thought my place was “completely infested” too, but it was mostly one forgotten rug and a pile of winter clothes. Once those were handled, things calmed down within a couple weeks.
Quick question, have you checked behind furniture and inside drawers? That’s where mine were hiding. I missed those spots at first and kept thinking nothing was working.
@BuggedOutAmy Same here. I ignored my dresser for way too long and that ended up being ground zero. Once I cleaned that out and stayed consistent, numbers dropped fast.
I’d say give it time. Even after deep cleaning, you might still see a few for a while. Doesn’t mean it failed, just means you’re breaking the cycle slowly.
Not sure if this helps, but I started seeing fewer adults after about 10 days. Larvae took longer. The key for me was repeating the same routine every few days, not just once.
@HomeFixer21 If the rest of the house truly looks clear, you might be okay focusing on that room first. Just keep an eye on nearby spaces so they don’t sneak back in unnoticed.
Just wanted to add some encouragement, this is fixable. Carpet beetles feel endless when you’re in the middle of it, but once you remove what they’re feeding on, they lose momentum fast.
