Thick clothing, gloves, face mask, and maybe even goggles. I once got stung when I didn’t cover my neck well, even at night.
Check weather. Cool, calm nights are better. Wind can send vibrations to the nest and trigger defensive behavior even if it’s dark.
I leave the nest alone if it’s high up and hard to access. Sometimes calling a professional outweighs risking stings.
@NatureNerd1 I like your idea about identifying wasp type first. Yellow jackets vs paper wasps? That makes a difference in how aggressive they’ll be.
After removing the nest, treat the area with insecticide or repellent and clean up any chewable parts. Residual scent can attract new colonies.
