Is it even possible to fully get rid of carpet beetles?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been dealing with carpet beetles on and off for what feels like forever, and I’m honestly starting to wonder if it’s even possible to get rid of them completely.

We’ve vacuumed constantly, washed fabrics, sealed cracks, and even tried professional treatments. Things improve for a while, but months later I’ll spot larvae again near baseboards or closets. No major infestation, just enough to be annoying and stressful.

Yes, but it takes time. For me it was more about eliminating food sources than killing the bugs themselves.

I don’t think “100% gone forever” is realistic, but you can get to a point where you never see them again if you stay consistent.

A lot of people focus on spraying, but larvae hide deep in fabrics and dust. Deep cleaning matters more than chemicals.

@OldHouseDIY Closets were the worst for me. Once I removed old wool items and stored seasonal clothes airtight, sightings dropped fast.

Humidity control helped in my case. Dehumidifier + regular vacuuming made a noticeable difference after a few months.

I treated it like a long-term maintenance issue, not a one-time fix. Quarterly deep cleans, no shortcuts.

Same here. Once I accepted it was a process, not a single solution, it got less frustrating.

@HomeHelper Totally agree. I haven’t seen one in over a year, but I still vacuum edges and closets regularly just in case.

They’re sneaky because adults can come in from outside. Getting rid of them indoors doesn’t stop new ones from wandering in.

From my experience, yes, you can beat them. But only if you’re more stubborn than they are.
