Hi all,
I’m still kind of shaken while typing this. I woke up last night and realized there was a centipede in my bed. Not on the wall, not on the floor — actually on the sheets near my legs. I got rid of it, but now I can’t stop thinking about how it ended up there in the first place.
I’ve heard house centipedes are common indoors, but finding one in bed feels like another level. I’m trying to understand whether this is just bad luck or a sign of a bigger issue.
Not super common, but it does happen. They wander at night and sometimes climb onto beds accidentally, especially if the bed touches a wall.
I had one in my sheets once after a heavy rain week. Turned out my room humidity was way too high.
Centipedes aren’t attracted to people or beds, they’re chasing other insects. The bed is usually just in the way.
Running a dehumidifier made a huge difference for me. Once the room dried out, they basically vanished.
@SleeplessSheets You’re not alone. Same thing happened to me in an older apartment. I freaked out, but it never happened again after sealing gaps.
Check the area under the bed and along baseboards. Small cracks are more than enough for them to come through.
People say “they’re harmless” but that doesn’t help when you wake up to one inches away
I feel your pain.
@BugLogic Exactly this. If you don’t address whatever they’re feeding on, removing one doesn’t really change much.
In my experience, one sighting doesn’t mean infestation. Repeated sightings in sleeping areas would worry me more.
I moved my bed a few inches away from the wall and tucked in loose sheets. Haven’t had one crawl up since.
