# Do Turkeys Eat Mice?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been curious about turkey diets lately. Most people think of turkeys as primarily herbivores, munching on seeds, nuts, and plants. However, I’ve heard some interesting claims that turkeys might also snack on small animals like mice. I want to dig deeper into this topic!
Turkeys are omnivores, which means their diet can include both plant and animal matter. While it’s true that they usually prefer seeds and berries, they may also consume insects, worms, and even small rodents when the opportunity arises. This leads me to a couple of questions:
1. Have you ever seen turkeys eat anything other than plants?

Great topic, DryDogDude! I live in a rural area, and I’ve often seen wild turkeys foraging around. They seem to peck at almost anything that moves! I wouldn’t be surprised if they went after small animals.

I’ve also observed that! One time, I saw a turkey chase down a mouse. It was wild! They can be surprisingly agile for such big birds.

That’s fascinating! I’ve only seen them around urban parks, mostly eating leftovers and seeds. I didn’t know they had such a diverse diet in the wild.

Absolutely! And I think more so in the fall when other food sources are dwindling. You often see them being more opportunistic at that time of year.

Good point! The Eastern Wild Turkey is commonly known for its diverse diet, but I wonder if domesticated turkeys have similar tendencies?

I think domesticated turkeys might be less likely to eat mice due to their controlled diets. They’re often raised to eat grains and pellets instead.
