I’ve heard of castor oil-based repellents; any feedback?
Castor oil worked better for me than sonic devices.
I’ve used a sonic repeller in my yard, gophers left for a bit, but they crept back after a month. Maybe they got used to the noise?
Installed one near my garden, worked like a charm for two weeks, then new mounds popped up. Anyone else see short-term success?
My solar-powered sonic stakes kept gophers away all summer, vibrations at 400 Hz seemed to do the trick. Worth a shot!
Tried a sonic device, gophers didn’t budge. I think my soil’s too dense for the sound to travel far enough.
I’ve had one running for a year, gopher activity dropped, but I paired it with castor oil granules. Combo might be key!
Set up a sonic repeller near my flower beds, mounds stopped for a while, but I’m skeptical it’s a permanent fix.
Mine buzzes at random intervals, gophers hate it, and I’ve had peace for months. Placement near tunnels seems critical!
I’ve read they work better in small yards, tried it on my acre lot, and the gophers just moved to the other side.
Sonic stakes chased gophers off my lawn initially, then they returned. Maybe they adapt, or my unit’s too weak?
Used one last spring, no new gopher holes since! But I’m wondering if it’s the sound or just luck with fewer gophers around.
Interesting point about soil types! My sandy backyard seems to carry vibrations better than my neighbor’s clay soil. Maybe that’s why our results differ?
Tried them last season - worked for about 3 weeks then the gophers came back with a vengeance. Ended up having to combine with flooding their tunnels to get results.
Has anyone tried encouraging natural predators? Installed a nesting box last fall and the owl family has done more for gopher control than any device I’ve tried.
@OwlFriend That’s genius! Do the owls bother your other garden wildlife though? I’ve got beneficial snakes and frogs I don’t want to scare off…
Complete failure in my vegetable patch. The gophers just tunneled deeper to avoid the vibrations. Lost an entire row of carrots before giving up on this method.
Noticed something odd - the devices seem more effective in spring when gophers are mating. Maybe they’re more sensitive to disturbances during breeding season?
@DirtDigger @TunnelTrouble You’re both right - I keep a garden journal and the devices only work temporarily unless I move them every 10 days. Such a hassle though!
Prefers this over poisons but… my dog keeps digging up the devices. Now I’ve got gopher holes AND craters from a confused golden retriever!
