Do Mice Come Back Once Released?

For city folks, parks are a good solution. Just make sure it’s an area without too much foot traffic.

I’ve been capturing and releasing mice in a nearby woodland area. None have come back to my place.

That makes sense. How far is the woodland from your apartment?

About a 10-minute drive, so probably a few miles. Far enough, I suppose.

Wild mice have territories, so relocating them usually means starting from scratch for them. They often won’t come back.

So it’s like they’re forced to find a new home and start a new life?

Exactly. It’s tough on them, but it’s better than extermination.

I’ve heard that relocating animals can sometimes put them at a disadvantage in their new environment.

True. It’s why some experts suggest humane traps and release, but far enough to minimize their stress.

It’s also why spreading awareness on preventing infestations before they happen is crucial. Prevention is key!

I released a mouse a mile away, haven’t seen it back, but I marked it with a dot of paint to be sure. Fingers crossed!

Dropped one off two blocks over, it came back in a week! Guess they’ve got a killer sense of direction.

I’ve heard mice can navigate back from half a mile, let mine go farther out, and so far, no encore visits!

Released a mouse in the woods nearby, kept coming back until I took it across a river. Water might be the trick!

Mine returned after a short trip down the road, read they use smell to find home, so I’m trying a longer haul next time.

Let one go a few streets away, no sign of it since, but I wonder if sealing entry points made the difference.

I’ve released mice close by, they scooted back fast! Now I drive them a couple miles out, and it’s been quiet.

Dropped one off near a field, it hasn’t returned, but I’ve got a hunch it depends on how far and what’s between us.

Mine came back twice from a block away, third time, I took it way out of town, and that seems to have stuck!

Released a mouse across a busy road, no comeback yet. Maybe traffic or distance throws off their homing instinct?
