Desperately need help getting rid of German cockroaches

Hi all,
I’m honestly at my breaking point and could really use some advice. We’re dealing with what seems to be a German cockroach problem, and no matter what we try, they keep coming back.

We’ve done deep cleaning, sealed food, used store-bought sprays and traps, but I’m still seeing them mostly at night in the kitchen and bathroom. I’ve read that German roaches are especially hard to eliminate once they settle in.

For anyone who’s been through this, what actually worked for you? Is professional treatment the only real solution, or are there effective DIY approaches that don’t make things worse?

German roaches are tough, unfortunately. Sprays usually just scatter them deeper into walls and cabinets.

What made a difference for me was gel bait, not foggers. It took weeks, but numbers slowly dropped instead of spiking.

If you’re in an apartment, there’s a good chance they’re coming from neighboring units. That makes DIY a lot harder.

@NightShiftTenant That’s what I’m afraid of. We share walls on both sides.

Professional treatment helped, but only after multiple visits. One-time sprays don’t cut it with German roaches.

Also check behind appliances. Our infestation source was behind the fridge where we never thought to look.

@DryDogDude Totally agree. Foggers made things worse for us. After using one, we saw roaches during the daytime.

If you have pets or kids, be careful with chemicals. Bait stations placed correctly are usually safer than spraying everywhere.

One thing people underestimate is consistency. Miss a week of baiting or cleaning and they rebound fast.

If you’re renting, document everything and push management to treat the whole building. Spot treatments don’t solve shared infestations.
