Are flea traps worth it or just a waste of money?

Hi folks,

I’m dealing with a lingering flea issue and keep seeing flea traps recommended online. Some people swear by them, others say they’re just gimmicks. Before I spend more money, I wanted to hear real experiences from people here.

Hey there, I’ve tried flea traps before. In my experience, they’re more of an indicator than a solution. They caught fleas, sure, but the bites didn’t stop until I addressed the rest of the house.

Morning all. I agree with that. I used a couple in my living room and bedroom, and while they filled up, the infestation didn’t really go away. It helped me understand how bad it was though.

I think people expect too much from traps. They’re passive, so they don’t deal with eggs or larvae. For me, they were useful to confirm hotspots, not as a standalone fix.

I felt they were a bit of a waste on their own. They caught some fleas, but nothing compared to what was still jumping around. @DustySofa nailed it, they show a problem more than they solve it.

I wouldn’t call them useless, but they’re limited. I used them alongside deep cleaning and vacuuming, and they helped me track progress week by week.

I had mixed results. One room showed tons of activity on the trap, another almost none. That info actually helped me focus my efforts better. @CaveDweller666 makes a good point about expectations.

From what I’ve seen, flea traps alone won’t end an infestation. They might reduce numbers slightly, but the real issue is breaking the life cycle.

Same here. I tried them early on and thought, “Great, this is working,” but a week later nothing had changed. They’re better as a support tool, not the main strategy.

I still use one occasionally, mainly to check if fleas are coming back. As a long-term solution? Not really. As a warning system? It’s been helpful for me.

I’d say they’re not a scam, just misunderstood. If someone expects them to solve everything, they’ll be disappointed. Used correctly, they have a place, just not center stage.
